1. Tingling Nipples
This is probably the earliest sign of pregnancy and is noticeable within a week of conception. As pregnancy hormones surge and increase blood supply to the nipples, you may notice a tingling sensation. Your body will eventually get used to this oversupply and regain normalcy.
2. Morning Sickness
This usually occurs from the sixth week of conception but in some women can start as early as four weeks. It is characterized by nausea and vomiting. Despite the name morning sickness it isn’t unlikely to experience these symptoms during the day and at night as well.
3. Spotting
Light bleeding is usually accompanied by cramping and can be noticed in the first six weeks of conception. Spotting occurs as a result of the attachment of your growing baby on the lining of the uterus. A process called implantation bleeding.
4. Sensitive Breasts
At six weeks after conception your breasts become overly sensitive and may appear to be swollen. This is often accompanied by visible veins that appear under the skin of the breasts.
5. Fatigue
This mostly occurs due to a heavy supply of pregnancy hormones. It is common for you to feel extraordinarily tired, upset and emotional, sometimes needing to take frequent naps in the course of the day.
6. Frequency of Urination
After conception the frequency of urination usually increases this is because of pregnancy hormones. The volume of blood that has by now increased coupled with kidneys that are working extra hard increases the need to urinate.
7. Skin Changes
Pregnancy usually changes the color of your skin. The most noticeable change is your areolas and this usually start getting darker. This happens from about eight weeks of pregnancy. The tiny bumps on your nipples may become more pronounced. Your vulva and vagina may also change to a deeper color as well.
8. Preference for Certain Food
This is commonly referred to as cravings. It is an overwhelming want for certain foods and a strong dislike for certain smells and foods. A metallic taste may also be present which could put you off certain foods.
9. Missing Period
If you have a regular period and it suddenly disappears. It could mean that you are pregnant. It is advisable, however, to wait a few days before testing. Read more on testing for pregnancy.
10. Confirmation
This is when you get two lines on you home testing kit meaning that you are finally pregnant.
These signs may vary for different women and different pregnancies, what is important is that you stay healthy and be attentive to your body.
