Why ambition is an essential trait for every woman’s success

In the recently concluded United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations, the story of one lady stood out and has inspired many people. Linet Chepkorir, the youngest candidate eyeing the UDA ticket in the race for the Bomet woman representative, seat emerged victorious- talk of ambition.

Chepkorir, usually referred to as Toto, defied all odds and put up a spirited fight throughout her campaigns, which attracted ten other aspirants. Chepkorir shot to fame during an aspirants’ meeting at Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen residence in early 2021.

Security guards despised and blocked her. Judged by her simple dressing, they alleged that Chepkorir was thrusting herself in a gathering meant for ‘Waheshimiwa.’

But that did not dampen her spirits to run for the seat.

“I decided to join politics and run for this seat because it has always been my dream to serve people,” she said. Her main agenda once elected is to pursue the youth and women agenda.

Just like Toto, the story of one Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has also inspired women of all cadres.

Ketanji was recently confirmed as the first African-American woman to serve as the United States Supreme Court justice  She will replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

“I have dedicated my career to public service because I love this country and our Constitution and the rights that make us free,” Jackson said in her comments at the White House following her confirmation.

“It has taken 232 years and 115 prior appointments for a Black woman to be selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. “But we’ve made it. We’ve made it, all of us. …

These two cases show how these ambitious women defied all odds to clinch those positions, despite the challenges they may have encountered.

The term ambition is best described as a strong wish to achieve something. It is a solid wish to be successful, powerful, rich, etc.

For ‘Toto’ and Justice Ketanji, their ambition and determination ensured they rose to the top.

Women definitely and naturally aspire and wish for more.

However, they face a lot of challenges when it comes to seeking top positions in their careers and even in politics. If one is not courageous and strong enough, they can easily give up due to fear, discouragement, and sometimes threats posed to them.

In today’s society, it cannot be denied that women have incredible opportunities for creating and chasing their ambitions now more than at any other time in history. You need to know that you have a voice and given a chance, you can make a significant impact on society.

Factors that limit ambition in women

Some of the factors that limit ambition for women include;

  • Not knowing what you want

It is tough to get motivated to do anything at all and still be ambitious if you are unsure about what you are after in the first place. Whenever you have a goal or a dream that you want to achieve, it is important to focus and write it down, and you will be motivated to go for it. Remember, you can’t hit a target you cannot see.

  • Aiming for less

Whatever one seeks to accomplish as a woman – writing a book, losing weight, winning a political seat, becoming the next chief executive officer-is the degree of desire they have to accomplish those goals that end up becoming the crucial element to achieving them.

However, many women try to set limits on their desire. When you limit the scope of your desire, you limit the scope of what you’re willing to do to reach your goals. Push yourself to your outermost limits. You will find that the more action you take, the more motivated you become to continue doing even more.

  • Not being in control of your physiology

Motion leads to motivation. If you want to get motivated and ambitious, learn to control your physiological state. Understand the kinds of movements you naturally make when you are feeling motivated and then do those things, and your mind will follow your body. You will begin to feel more motivated when you put yourself in a position to actually feel more motivated.

  • Being overwhelmed

Have you ever felt so stressed, overwhelmed, and under so much pressure that you would rather give up on the goals you want to achieve? Being overwhelmed (or stressed to the gills) can drain your ambitions as a woman.

In such a case, it is vital to take a break and get some rest.

  • Procrastination

Wanting to do things and then postponing them to a later date every time can make you not achieve your goals. It is crucial to take action immediately and set the ball rolling.
